Avril Elward
Avril Elward produces sculptural objects which are created from her fascination of manmade materials with regard to colour, form or texture. The underlying characteristic
suggests a playful questioning of the urban and the natural, the synthetic and organic.
Created through her spontaneity of ideas, the objects gain their shape through the creative process. Imbuing a rough and ready character which enables the sculptures to project a sense of unpredictability and fun and changes our perception of the way we view the work.
The figures being featured in Lost & Found are created to be unnatural in size and shape, elongated and faceless
signifying our fragility and ephemeral nature of human
existence. Made from wire then bound with discarded clothes and cemented into old boots, questioning the notion of their characters and histories of their lives.
