I am a self-taught, part-time artist living in Chesterfield; when I am not painting I work as a psychotherapist in private practice. Although I’ve always been interested in art and creative expression and “dabbled” in drawing and painting over the years I believe that it’s only through the personal development I have done as part of my training to become a therapist that I have found my other passion in life – painting.
Since I discovered my passion I have taken the opportunity to attend workshops with people whose work I admire and that I find exciting. At the moment I am exploring colour and mark making. I like to working with a limited palette looking for a range of colours for each picture that, for me, captures the light and reflection I see in the moment and begins to express the mood and emotion of my experience. And I’m really interested in how the simplest of marks can convey, and what the perception of the beholder does with those marks. I’m enjoying painting landscapes and seascapes some local and some further afield as I travel. I paint those scenes that have meaning for me – usually a moment of peace or connection to the natural world.
Most of my work is done in acrylic and oils, however I like to experiment and explore new ideas and techniques and as I feel that my skills as a painter are emerging then watch this space!
